How I Cope Anxiety + Depression as a Minimalist

Depression and Anxiety can hit us in any directions, especially in this current situation we’re all facing. As this new normal to us are so frustrating to the point that sometimes we over analyze things around. So in this post, I would like to share my process on how I cope my anxieties and depression before.

Without further ado, lets read straight to the list!

1. Meditation

Yes, meditation is a very big help and an impact whether you have anxiety or if you want to calm your mind from the hectic way of life. Meditate for 10-20 minutes and mindfully feel your chest expanding as you inhale and exhale God’s free oxygen. Feel your breath! Let your thoughts come whether its a positive or negative response feel it freely and if you didn’t like what you were thinking change it. You had the power over to that.

You don’t need to be cozy & fancy to meditate, just close that door in your room and sit.

2. Pray

Meditation is a great help, but with prayer and thanksgiving to God everyday the moment woke up. You will feel things are right in places, because you set yourself that you started your day with Him. Don’t forget to read His words too, in this digital age there’s some apps we can download on our devices for free and stay connected with God.

3. Journal

Journaling things around you, are highly beneficial on our brain for its thoughts was out and you had it in record. On which for the long run you can analyze and understand things when it comes to your strength and weaknesses when this problem occur. Write them on your old notes, on your notepad in your computer or phone, or not voice record it and save them on Drive.

4. Get Out

Yes! Uh-huh. Get out for a while, it can be in your room, in your bed, in that phone. Just get out for a while, turn that phone off, leave your bed, close that room and go outside, water some plants, talk to them, if not go out with your dog or take a walk but please practice safety measures and wear a mask for your health protection when you step outside the house.

5. Connect

Connect, Re-connect whatever we call it when you know things you can’t handle all by yourself anymore, connect with people. Call them, send a 1 min chat, or ask anything. You will know who will be on your side, and you will see people still care on you. Don’t let those moment put yourself down. Connect and seek! You are more than what you think. ❤️

YouTube Channels to Inspire You Become a Minimalist

This minimalism journey started from a YouTube channel, also. I created a post with that, so if you want you can check it out by clicking the link here.

As my desire to grow become a minimalist or just to say live in simple life, this lifestyle craved me for more — information, techniques, life hacks, tips n’ tricks and of course a reason too on why I must live and continue this life in its uniqueness.

Craving for some information in regards with this topic turns out that the moment you type and ask things about Minimalism, Simple Living or anything related to it will gave you tons of answers and you will be amazed on the overflowing information.

Some of the information we may find it in blogs (just like what I’m doing sharing this journey), books, documentary or even the one which is very popular these days the video platform called, YouTube.

So with this, I list down below my 10 top most watch minimalists youtube channels.

1. Kyra Ann

Her name pronounced as Kei-ra like Sha[kira]. Thanks to this bubbly vlogger for being an instrument to open the world of minimalism into my lifestyle. Well, obviously when you read the link above you can see I mentioned her at my previous post. I love how elegant and simple she deliver her thoughts on which is I guess the reason why I slowly engaged into it.

2. Simple Happy Zen

Vera is my go-to channel whenever I feel stuck in this journey. I like how she let her viewers understand minimalism in a simple way. Her channel are focused on slow living topics, decluttering, self and mental care for minimalists, especially aspiring ones.

3. Joshua Becker

Joshua Becker helped me minimize everything in my journey from sentimental items to my finance. He was indeed a great help to me, his channel was much focused on having less and being mindful becoming a minimalist. I suggest you should check out his blog, Becoming Minimalist too.

4. Heal Your Living

Youheum (she pronounced as Youm) was my another go-to channel. She’s an extreme minimalist and a nature lover. Her channel are more in slow living topics and becoming mindful on her daily life. I also love the way she laundry her clothes.

5. Ronald L. Banks

I love how Ronald explain on his channel things about minimalism. Through him I even understand deeply what minimalism really is, its not just about decluttering and minimizing but sometimes letting go things people and etc from our lives are important too.

6. The Minimalists

At first, I heard them in a podcast. Slowly of course as my desire to grow I started to love their unique techniques in minimalism. I like how they try to let you figure out the life you wanted to create as you try to minimize, somehow they’re such great especially to aspiring minimalist out there.

7. Matt D’ Avella

Special thanks to Stuart and Nath for this amazing recommendation. I’ve learned a lot from Matt the moment I watch his channel (okay, I binge! sorry hahahah). He was a great help when it comes to this lifestyle and his experiments are my challenges too. As of this writing, I’m in my 5th day of the 30 day no added sugar challenge.

8. Ashlynne Eaton

Ashlynne Eaton is more about decluttering, minimalism tips and on how she applied minimalism in her daily life. I love that some of her tips are much doable.

9. CK SPACE

Cheng, has so much to offer especially to the aspiring minimalist. His videos are so simple and even I honestly had few habits develop through his channel.

10. Abundantly Minimal

Abundantly actually helps me a lot when it comes to decluttering my stuff. She’s so great, can’t say anything just head it out to her channel and binge. It’s so worth it.

What is Minimalism and the Benefit of this Lifestyle

When you hear the word Minimalism what comes to your mind first? Was it a clean room with less furniture? More self-time? Less stuff? More space? Less cleaning, organizing? Or as simple as Living with Less? Some of it are my reason and might be the reason of the others why they live in this lifestyle. Before jumping to its benefits, let’s talked into its meaning …

So, what is Minimalism?

When we surf the web to its meaning, we mostly got a definition from a dictionary on which states that it was a trend culture back in 1950’s. It is use in a form of art (such as sculpture and paintings). I’m amaze on how they define it as it used the word simple.

But when we dive it thoroughly it highlights that some minimalist says it was a philosophy of getting rid of excess stuff and to live life based on experiences rather than worldly possession, or in short living in a simple lifestyle.

Some says, living simply was hard for them even on my experience too. Letting go of my excess stuff and other things that doesn’t bring value to my life are a bit challenging especially that I easily get attached on things.

Thanks to this lifestyle it benefits me a lot from my personal finance to my mental health. It was actually worth it!

Here’s what this lifestyle benefits me

Less purchase comes more savings

The moment I started to declutter and organize my stuff, I became more aware and mindful to my spending habit from clothing, groceries and even just a small amount that I spend are actually very important. My decluttering also helped me save because I sell few of my unused stuff and the rest I packed and hand it down to my relatives in province.

Less stuff to clean, to organize & etc. – more time for myself

Well, I’m not a big fan of organizing my stuff before but when I’m in my 90 days pre-lifestyle (as they say it took 21 days to make a habit, and 90 days to have a lifestyle) my organizing skill actually helped me on it, but when you had less stuff. I rarely organize them so, I had more time for myself, communicate to my family virtually, Netflix and chill, and other things like my crochet or attend a free online class.

Less stress means more freedom

Yes, I mean yeah. Who want to stress out thinking what would be your next #OOTD? Stressing on stuff laying anywhere because we don’t have enough storage left, because all of the spaces on our room were filled of so much stuff that we don’t need anymore. Letting them go can ease our minds at the same time, we can have freedom to do things we love.

Less comparison, more contentment

“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

So, when you learn to stay contented on what you have, you don’t need to compare things around yourself because you know some of them doesn’t bring joy to ourselves rather than jealousy and it is not good to our pocket or in our mental health. 😊

Last but not the least, less environmental impact when we chose to buy quality things

This is really the game changer of this lifestyle, before I use to being frugal and buy cheap items, but then I regret it because it easily ripped or broken. My lesson to it, better to buy quality things rather than buying them again and again.
